Kybella® is a simple treatment that involves the injection of deoxycholic acid into the submental (underneath chin) area defined by our Nurse Practitioner during a consultation. Kybella® is another safe and non surgical treatment we offer and is performed most of the time with light-numbing agent. Before treatment
Our Nurse Practitioners will review your chart with you and confirm your skincare and what are your beauty goals.
We will discuss the risk factors associated with the KYBELLA® treatment, and any other concerns you may have before to proceed with the treatment.
Share any details including if you have had or have medical conditions in or near the neck area; have had or have trouble swallowing; have bleeding problems; are pregnant or plan to become pregnant (it is not known if KYBELLA® will harm your unborn baby); are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed (it is not known if KYBELLA® passes into your breast milk).
During treatment
Mild discomfort may be experienced, but the process isn’t painful. We will cleanse injection sites to work and we may offer numbing agents as requested by patient.
Once our Nurse Practitioner determines that you are a good candidate for KYBELLA® treatment, the cosmetic procedure is straightforward. A dotted grid marking the injection locations is placed on the treatment area and the solution is injected. Patients may feel a temporary burning sensation during the office visit.
After treatment
After KYBELLA® treatment, you will likely have some swelling, bruising, or numbness under your chin.
Use a small bag of frozen pees in a sandwich bag or crushed ice to gently ice the area. No heavy ice bags. Ice for 20 minutes on and 20 minutes off. Continue the icing for 48 hours if possible.
We recommend no strenuous exercise for 48 hours in order to reduce swelling and bruising.
For the first 2-3 days sleeping with your head propped up on 2-3 pillows can help minimize swelling under the chin area. Swelling should begin to improve after about 48 hours.
Pineapples have an natural anti-inflammatory properties to them that help to minimize swelling after injections.
It is normal to experience some pain and sensitivity in the area of the injection. Most patients find that Tylenol can help relieve this post-injection pain. Avoid NSAIDs such as Motrin and ibuprofen as these can make swelling and bruising worse.

How does KYBELLA® works?
The active ingredient in KYBELLA® is synthetic deoxycholic acid. Deoxycholic acid is a naturally occurring molecule in the body that aids in the breakdown and absorption of dietary fat. When injected into the fat beneath the chin, KYBELLA® destroys fat cells, resulting in a noticeable reduction in fullness under the chin. Once destroyed, these cells can no longer store or accumulate fat, so further treatment is not expected once you reach your desired aesthetic goal.
